The Basics of the 26&2 Yoga Class
Hot Yoga Naples is pleased to offer highly encouraging and engaging Bikram yoga classes which include a 26 posture series designed to stimulate the organs, glands, and nerves systematically. The combined heat and humidity increase muscle flexibility and can help to prevent future injuries. These postures are a combination of both standing and floor exercises that work synergistically and cumulatively to bring the mind and body to optimal health. Additional benefits include the prevention of illness and limiting the effects of aging. Our class members always tell us that they leave our Bikram yoga classes feeling confident and with newfound energy.
Hot Yoga Versus Traditional Yoga
Compared to traditional yoga, hot yoga, otherwise known as Bikram yoga, is done at a higher temperature and humidity level to promote healthier exercise and detoxification for the skin, muscles, and internal organs. The postures themselves are a combination of both standing and floor exercises to both build strength and promote greater flexibility. Staying hydrated is absolutely essential during hot yoga, so be sure to come well hydrated to help you fully enjoy the experience and leave completely invigorated.
how to prepare for hot yoga
New Students, don’t be deterred, Hot Yoga is for every-body! Bishnu Ghosh said “It’s never too late, it’s never too bad and you’re never too old or too sick to start from scratch again.” If you feel nervous, scared or a little intimidated, no problem. Many people feel this way initially. Just don’t let it stop you from coming to class. The class is designed for beginners, so know that with a little practice and experience, you’ll quickly feel right at home.
Arrival
Feel free to come in for any class that fits your lifestyle as all the classes are designed to work with beginners. Please arrive 15-20 minutes before your first class, we lock the front door when class starts. This promotes a more relaxed experience as you register and orient yourself. Each class in 90 min so please plan accordingly.
hydrate
Drink plenty of water throughout your day, before and after class. Good hydration supports the healthy function of all your body’s systems. The Institute of Medicine sets general guidelines for total water intake. It recommends that women consume a total of 91 ounces (that’s about 2.7 liters) per day. For men, it’s about 125 ounces a day (or 3.7 liters). Physical activity in heat will increase water losses and raise daily fluid needs. Please to come to class fully hydrated, you’ll be surprised the difference it makes.
fuel
Avoid big meals 2-3 hours before class. Eat a piece of fruit before class if you’re hungry.
outfit
Dress to sweat, it’s hot so please wear as little as your comfortable in. Women, If you’re comfortable, think swimwear, bike shorts, sports bra, etc. The most we recommend is a pair of capri’s and a tank. Men, a pair of bike shorts are sufficient. You want something you can move in, a pair of board shorts will do for starters but you will quickly learn they don’t let you move very well!! We have an awesome retail area if you need yoga gear. Bring your mat if you own one or you can barrow one of our mats for your first class.
The school is shoe free. So, please take your shoes off in the reception area.
repeat
Take your 2nd class within 24 hours. The second class is the equivalent of 3-4 classes and you’ll bypass much of the soreness you’d experience otherwise. This practice works cumulatively; the more frequently you practice the faster you’ll improve and the greater the benefits.
class
It’s helpful to realize that other students focus on themselves in class. They’re working too hard to even notice you therefore there are no judgments. Work to your edge, but also listen to your body. If you need to, take a break, stand out a posture or sit on your mat. Approach each posture to the best of your ability and as a result you’ll receive 100% of the benefits. Talk to us if you have questions, we’re always here to help.
